    Deutsche Welle masterminded a documentary film about the band Scorpions. We went party-hopping at the Berlin Film Festival and paid a visit to Europe's largest natural ice rink in the Swiss winter resort of Davos. Scorpions Documentary Premiere The Scorpions are one of the most successful rock bands ever. This year marks their unbelievable 50th stage anniversary. During a tour that had started as their Farewell tour they decided that they want to just keep on rocking. Deutsche Welle's new documentary 'Forever and a Day' traces the band's unique history. euromaxx was at the world premiere of the film in Berlin. Visible History in Zaragoza We visit the city of Zaragoza located in northeastern Spain. It is a prime example of the mix of Moorish and European cultures that is characteristic for Spain. We went to take in Zaragoza's many attractions. Work and Play at the Berlin Film Festival Berlinale is an opportunity for production companies, film distributors and sponsors to throw parties and receptions. These events are an intricate part of the film festival and a perfect chance for movers and shakers to network. Despite a pretty tight schedule, young German actor and filmmaker Tom Sommerlatte was so kind to let us come along. Ice Skating in Davos Swiss winter sports resort Davos is home to Europe’s largest natural ice rink. It boasts a surface area of 18,000 square meters and attracts beginners and professional skaters alike. Every year between December and the end of February figure skaters, speed skaters and hockey teams train here. We took to the ice ourselves to see the action. Cologne Carnival Dancers Some people spend the whole year preparing for Cologne’s Carnival celebrations. That's certainly true of the Luftflotte dance troupe, which performs at some of the biggest events. We met up with the inspiration behind their choreography: 83-year-old Biggi Fahnenschreiber.

Comic Festival in Angoulême The international comic scene meets for the 42nd time in Angoulême in western France. This year the festival takes place in the wake of the attack on the satirical magazine "Charlie Hebdo," and a prize for freedom of speech will be presented for the first time. Extreme Unicyclist Lutz Eichholz After three years of planning, Lutz Eichholz managed to scoot down 5,600-meter-high Mount Damavand in Iran on his unicycle. His record-breaking descent defied dizzying drops, injury and temperatures ranging from 40 to -7 degrees Celsius. Lagerfeld's Cat as Advertising Star Fashion guru Karl Lagerfeld has used his cat Choupette for the new Opel Corsa calendar. It’s the brainchild of Opel's chief marketing officer Tina Müller, a former cosmetics manager who joined the Opel board in 2013. Nordic Trends in Stockholm For a week in February, Sweden's capital becomes the biggest meeting place worldwide for Scandinavian furniture design. The Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair has existed for 60 years, and was the inspiration for the Stockholm Design Week, first launched in 2002. It incorportates more than sixty high-profile events at venues around the city. 650 exhibitors will be showing their newest creations. Car Auction We report on a Paris auction featuring some sixty old cars that were discovered in a barn in Western France. One of the items under the hammer is a Ferrari that once belonged to Alain Delon.

We caught up with him in Milan to take a look at how he creates these 3-dimensional-looking paintings that spring to life. Haute Couture The haute couture week is held twice a year in Paris. The events are organised by the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture. But what criteria must a fashion house meet in order to be accepted into this exclusive world of luxury designs? And who actually buys haute couture? Scottish Filmmaker Paul Diffley Paul Diffley joins some of the world's best climbers on high-altitude tours to capture some breathtaking footage. And he's already taken home a large number of prizes for his work. Theo Jansen's Strand Beasts Dutch artist Theo Jansen creates what he calls "strand beasts" or beach beasts. They look like something out of a science fiction movie, move on their own and can harness wind power. Jansen's strand beasts are complex constructions made from simple materials he buys at the do-it-yourself market, like string, ties, and plastic tubes. An exhibition of his strand beasts opens in Paris in February. Belle Époque Week It seems like time has stood still In the Swiss village of Kandersteg. Many hotels are from the turn of the century and there are no major ski lifts. So Kandersteg decided to cash in on that and turn back the hands of time with the "Belle Époque week" celebrations in January. It's a winter vacation the way you might have done it a hundred years ago - and that includes the dress.

    A bird’s eye view of the Polish Landscape, a visit to the world’s first-ever ice hotel, freeriding in the Alps, magical paper art and Funcal on the Portuguese Atlantic island of Madeira. Aerial Photographs by Kacper Kowalski Kacper Kowalski's aerial photographs of his home have won many awards. Almost every week, the Pole flies off in a mini-helicopter to take pictures of his home country. His shots often reflect the interplay between man and nature. Kowalski calls his pictures "civilization portraits.” His series "Toxic Beauty” was awarded the World Press Photo Award in 2014. The World's First Ice Hotel The Ice Hotel in Jukkasjärvi in northern Sweden got started 25 years ago - by accident, in fact. And since then, the enthusiasm for it hasn't thawed, and you can now find ice hotels in many parts of the world. We visit the original. Freeriding in the Alps Snowboarding and skiing off piste, on ungroomed, natural terrain - that's Freeriding. The extreme sport is becoming very popular and many European winter sports regions are catering to this group. One of the trendiest places right now is Kitzbuehel in the Austrian Alps where the "Freeride Weeks” are taking place. Paper Artists Kristin and Davy McGuire We head to Bristol in the UK to meet Davy and Kristin McGuire. They make haunting paper theater productions that are shown all over the world. They're indeed a cut above and we were able to meet the couple behind them. Atlantic Haven The Portuguese island of Madeira lies about 730 kilometers off the coast of Morocco so it enjoys very moderate temperatures all year round. Discovered back in the 15th century by Portuguese sailors, it’s today an oasis of rich vegetation and a perfect destination for sun-starved tourists.

Olafur Eliasson - The King of Light euromaxx heads to Paris to see a solo exhibition of work by Danish-Icelandic light artist Olafur Eliasson at the Louis Vuitton Fondation. Saas-Fee in the Swiss Alps When most people think of Switzerland, they automatically think of the Alps. These are at their most spectacular in the Canton of Valais. The region is home to 47 peaks, including Switzerland’s highest mountain, the Monte Rosa. We visit the skiing resort of Saas-Fee and explore what makes this corner of Europe so unique. Written in the Stars The start of a new year is a time when many wonder what the future holds. If anyone can tell them, it's Gerda Rogers. She's an astrologer based in Vienna who writes horoscopes for newspapers and also hosts a radio show. Going to Work Where Others Go to Holiday Europeans love to holiday on Gran Canaria, one of the Spanish Canary Islands. euromaxx met up with an activities' host from a holiday resort. Yurisley Leal Gonzalez works at the Club Hotel Riu Gran Canaria where she keeps the guests fit - and entertained.

Tea as a Lifestyle Drink Tea is the new coffee - at least according to the US hi-tech magazine "Wired". That seems to hold true for Germany as well: Since 2006, tea consumption has been steadily rising, with Germans now drinking an average of 27 liters of per year. We visit a tasting in Hamburg's warehouse district to find out more. A Home in the Woods Many dream of living in the countryside yet only a 30-minute drive from a major city. Hungarian photographer Zsolt Batar does just that, with a log cabin in the woods outside Budapest. With windows from floor to ceiling in most rooms, you really feel part of Nature. Fragile Ceramic Artworks Swiss artist Arnold Annen's ceramic bowls are so fragile that it's a wonder they hold together at all. White, translucent and paper thin - less than a millimeter in thickness - they test the artist's material to its limits. A Trip to Tyrol The Tyrol region with the famous ski resort of Kitzbühel is one of Austria's top winter attractions. Visitors and locals can enjoy around 150 kilometers of ski slopes - as well as the legendary après-ski. Kitzbuhel is also very popular with the international jet set.

His recent photo book aims to display the gentler side to these giant creatures with stunning photos. Dull Men's Club Brits are famously eccentric and here’s a prime example: The Dull Men's Club is an association that wants to give a platform to men with boring hobbies such as collecting stamps or milk bottles. The club has about 5000 members worldwide. Their recently published photo calendar which portrays twelve men and their favorite dull pasttimes is gearing to be a number one bestseller. Fitting In, Not Standing Out The latest buzzword in the fickle world of fashion and style is "normcore". All about dressing in an utterly conventional, nondescript way, it's a backlash against the idea that clothes should express individuality. The Rebuilding of Dresden's Frauenkirche Dresden's main landmark, the Frauenkirche of Church of Our Lady, was first completed in 1743. After being fire-bombed by the Allies in 1945, a worldwide appeal for funds to restore it to its former glory raised more than 110 million Euros. It was restored according to the original plans of Baroque-era architect George Bäh. The local media talked of the "miracle of Dresden". A Trip to Malta Malta is a former British colony and a member of the EU since 2004 - and even though it's a microstate there's tons to see and do - from a variety of perspectives!
