They’re typically German! Almost one thousand folk festivals in Germany are celebrated annually, attracting more than 230 million visitors. Alice in Wonderland Turns 150 The classic children’s story by Lewis Carroll about a little girl’s adventure in a magical world is now being celebrated - particularly in Oxford. IT-Couture at Berlin Fashion Week Fashion meets IT: electrocouture is one of the up-and-coming trends in the garment industry. Screens made of cloth, smart jackets, 3D printed jewellery - The use of digital features in fashion design is big at Berlin Fashion Week. Mission World Heritage: Venice Venice is beautiful but overrun, with 25 million tourists each year. Venice was added to the list of UNESCO world heritage sites in 1987. Camouflage Art This weekend the world's best body painting artists gathered at the annual Bodies & Beats Festival in Austria. Euromaxx looked them over the shoulder and they revealed some tricks of their trade to us. The 2015 Beaufort Festival Every three years artists display their works on beaches along the Belgian coast. The event is organised by the small town of Beaufort. This year's motto is: Beyond Borders. On this edition of Euromaxx Highlights: The Spanish Riding School in Vienna, men's fashion in the spotlight at the Milan Moda Uomo, the Lost Spaces' photo trend, White Nights in Saint Petersburg and Street Art in Berlin. 450 Years on Horseback The renowned Spanish Riding School in Vienna has a history dating back to the Habsburg Monarchy in 1572 and is now celebrating it's 450th anniversary. It's also home to the famous, white Lipizzan horses, which are trained to perform classic dressage. Fashion Revolution The times when they were treated as the women's lines' unloved step-brothers are long over. Men's wear collections are becoming increasingly important for fashion labels. We take a look at the catwalks in Milan. Frozen in Time Urban ruins are proving to be great photographic studies. In recent years, the trend of photographing 'Lost Spaces' has taken off. This includes capturing the feeling of abandoned spaces, including disused hospitals or old office buildings. White Nights in Saint Petersburg We went to experience the special atmosphere during the famous White Nights in Saint Petersburg which take place there during the midsummer season every mid-June to early July. Urban Nation: Street Art in Berlin Ten well-known street artists have transformed a neighborhood avenue in the popular Berlin district of Schöneberg. Urban Nation is a platform for street artists from around the world to display their talent and to help give certain parts of the German capital a colorful facelift.

In this edition: Loch Lomond, Art Basel, a top slackliner, a shoe exhibition in London and GIF as an art form. Art Basel Classics of the modern era of painting will be the focus of this year's Art Basel. With a roster of artists boasting the likes of Marc Chagall and Pablo Picasso, the 284 galleries exhibiting are expecting record sales. The world's premier fair for art of the 20th and 21st centuries opened s its doors for the 46th time on Thursday. Around 4,000 works will be up for sale. Top Slackliner Alexander Schulz Austria's Alexander Schulz is one of the best slackliners in the world. He's constantly testing the limits of this young sport. The 23-year-old currently holds the world record in waterline, highline and longline - achievements he managed within one year. Shoe Exhibition: Pleasure and Pain We report on an exhibition at London's Victoria and Albert museum featuring 200 pairs of shoes from different eras. Some of the exhibits don't look like shoes at first glance. Romantic Loch Lomond A report on one of the most scenic destinations in Scotland. The lake is located north west of tne city of Glasgow. GIF Artist Erdal Inci With the graphic file "GIF" its possible to make short animations using very little data so that any internet browser can play them. Thats why, 30 years after their creation, GIFs are popular again with artists like Erdal Inci from Turkey.

In this edition: breathtaking underwater videos, animal magic from Finland, a Danish restaurant with a difference, Europe's waterslides and the Swiss canton of Thurgau. The Ocean Brothers' Breathtaking Videos Two Spanish freedivers impress with their internet videos. The brothers play with camera perspectives and create the impression of floating in space, walking on water, and flying like superman through the air-- without using any special effects! Dog Magician Jose Ahonen A magician from Finland tried his tricks on spectators that usually don't succumb to illusions. At least, so one would think! The dogs he played his magic on did not use their sense of smell to figure out his tricks: astoundingly, they were really duped! Just like their human counterparts! His videos called Magic for Dogs have gone viral on Youtube. Restaurant 'Rub & Stub' We profile a Danish restaurant serving meals solely using products which would otherwise have gone to waste. 'Rub & Stub' was opened in Copenhagen in 2013 by a group of environmentally-conscious friends who give their profits to charity. We met with the chef, Søren Grimstrup, to see what kinds of dishes he can create with the food donated to them. Rating Europe's Waterslides German brothers Julian und Luka Tschech are experts on Europe's waterslides. We join them for a few hair-raising rides, including one at the Caneva World Water Park in Italy - Europe's tallest body slide. The Swiss Canton of Thurgau We travel to the northeastern Canton of Thurgau in Switzerland. This is a popular destination for tourists because of Lake Constance and the many castles and cloisters in the region. The great variety of local wine is also a real draw for connoisseurs.

Euromaxx Highlights 31.05.2015 Online Jam Session Reknowned British musician Kevin Godley had a brilliant idea. Together with an Irish company he developed an app that enables musicians to play together online from wherever they are. Among the registered users of WholeWorldBand are not only amateurs and aspiring talents. Successful artists like Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood or former Police drummer Steward Copeland also join the fun. High-tech Fashion Apple Watch, google Glass...lots of companies are busy inventing wearable technology these days. That goes for fashion designers as well. For example, Borre Akkersdijk from the Netherlands, who incorporates technology into his clothing designs: like the BBSuit. It provides its wearers with WiFi reception wherever they are. Animal Photographer Tim Flach The animal inside humans, the human inside animals, and the many layers in between; this complex relationship is what award winning photographer Tim Flach of Britain attempts to explore and capture through his camera lens. His latest book "Evolution" is a collection of his photography, retracing the animal kingdom from aquatic creatures to the great apes. Slowing Down A design student from the northern German city of Bremen invented a contraption that he calls the decelerator helmet. Whoever puts it on, sees what's going on around them in slow-motion. It's meant as an art project that wants to counteract our fast-paced lifes and reflect on mankind's age-old dream of being able control the speed of time. Castles and Vinyards The Upper Middle Rhine valley in Germany has been popular with tourists since the beginning of the 19th century, with the arrival of the first steamships. Hundreds of thousands of visitors flock to the region every year to view the some 40 hilltop castles and fortresses in this region, which was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site

Lifestyle Europe Coming up on Euromaxx Highlights Expo in Milan, a visit to Graz in Austria, vertical urban gardens, gourmet vegetarian food, and a very private house near Lisbon. Highlights of Expo Architecture 145 countries are taking part in the Expo in Milan, and 60 pavillions were specifically built for it. Lots of wood, hanging gardens and open constructions. Architects were faced with the problem of building representative structures on a small area, while keeping the theme of the Expo in mind: sustainabiltiy. A Tour of Graz Today's episode takes us to the Austrian city of Graz. It was declared a UNESCO world heritage site in 1999. Author Sigrid Rahm showed us around her home city. Green Fingers - Garden Designer Patrick Blanc To mark this week's Chelsea Flower Show, garden artist Patrick Blanc shows us how vertical gardens can liven up urban environments. They can now be seen in many cities the world over. Paul Ivic - Europe's Best Vegetarian Cook There are only a few vegetarian restaurants worldwide with a Michelin-star. The "Tian" in Austria's captial Vienna is one of them. And it also has three Gault Millau toques. All thanks to the creative culinary talents of chef Paul Ivic. Living in a Cube In Aldeia de Juso, a village southwest of Lisbon, you'll find a very unusual looking house. The facade has no windows. But inside, you'll discover that all the rooms have openings leading to an inside courtyard. The Hernández family likes their privacy!

On this week's Euromaxx highlights: We meet German painter Georg Baselitz at the Art Biennale in Venice, take a stroll around the medieval city of Bruges in Belgium and take a look behind the scenes of some of Europes most successful food blogs. Georg Baselitz at the Venice Art Biennale Turning art on its head... literally. That's the credo of 77-year-old painter and sculptor Georg Baselitz. He's one of the heavyweights on the international art scene and we met up with him at his show at this year's Art Biennale in Venice. New Glass Fountain in Versailles Landscape gardener Louis Benech and glass artist Jean-Michel Othoniel teamed up to build a new water fountain at the Versailles palace gardens. The Murano glass spectacle has been built in commemoration of the 17th century 'Bosquet du Theatre d'Eau' water games which were located in the same place. After four years construction time the fountain is now open to the public. Take a Tour of Bruges We're heading to the Flemish city of Bruges in Belgium. The city has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since the year 2000 due to its incredible medieval architecture, and is nickamed Venice of the North for its many canals. Popular Food Blogs Food blogs are becoming increasingly popular and ever more professional. 'What's for luch, Honey' written by Indian born Meeta K. Wolff is one of the most successful German examples. Bonn Jazz Festival This year’s Jazz Festival in the German city of Bonn features a number of strong female artists. Among them are Danish percussionist Marilyn Mazur and US-American singer Lizz Wright. Two women from two continents who are well established on the international jazz scene. Euromaxx went to take a listen.

In this edition: the Hyères fashion festival, a sparkling attraction in Tyrol, a new museum in Milan, an obstacle race and a famous boulevard in Barcelona. The Fashion Festival in Hyères Young fashion designers meets style icons from the international fashion scene in southern France: At the annual festival in Hyères, they come from all over the world to present their work before a high-caliber jury, including Princess Caroline of Monaco and former Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld. Crystal Cloud 800,000 crystals sparkle on a reflecting water surface - the 1,400-square-foot work of art is the new attraction at Swarovski’s Crystal Worlds in Tyrol. The spectacular cloud is the work of the French-American artist duo Cao Perrot. Armani Museum in Milan Staying in Milan, we report on the opening of the Armani museum. It shows the forty year history of the fashion house. The museum goes by the name of Silos Armani. It is located in a former food warehouse. Tough Mudder Obstacle Race This is a kind of boot-camp fitness test where the participants are put through the paces. They face many obstacles in the mud, sand and freezing cold water. We tag along to one such race in Germany where the sport is growing by leaps and bounds. Famous Boulevards: La Rambla Probably every visitor to Barcelona will stroll down La Rambla at least once. Tapas bar owner Juanito Bayen takes us on a tour from Plaça de Catalunya down to the harbor.
