Freiburg in the south-west of Germany is home to the most modern solar community in the world. The Plusenergiehaus® is based on a multiple modular design system and shows how solar power not only saves electricity costs but also brings in money. The solar panels on the rooves of these new houses produce more power than they use. The surplus is fed into the public power grid, allowing home owners to actually earn up to 5000 euros a year. Designed by local architects, this trailblazing solar energy estate attracts scores of international visitors keen to see how it's done. Joachim Eggers on a place in the sun.

Greece needs money - lots of money, and it doesn't matter where it comes from. Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras visited Moscow on April 8 and 9. His goal was to seek an end to Russia's embargo on Greek food exports, secure lower natural gas prices and new money - although Tsipras stressed that he didn't ask Moscow for a bailout. Russian President Vladimir Putin made a vague pledge of closer economic cooperation with Greece. But that could come at a price, because Russia has strategic interests in Greece.
